We all know the story about how Dr Theron discovered the wonderfully healing properties of Rooibos when she had a fussy baby and warmed her milk with Rooibos tea. Little did we know what a massive impact this discovery would have on everyday ailments and our lives. Here’s how you can incorporate Rooibos into your home-remedy kit.

Eye sore no more

You’ve spent a long day hunched over your laptop, crunching numbers and returning urgent emails, and it has left your eyes red, blurry and pounding. Taking care of it is easier than you think and won’t cost you an arm a leg. All you have to do is wash out your eyes with some lukewarm Rooibos tea. It will soothe your eyes and reduce strain since it contains magnesium, an important chemical element for a healthy nervous system. As an added bonus, if you dip the teabags in water and place them on your eyes for a minute or two before bed, they will help take away the dark circles and puffiness under your eyes.

Acne and eczema, be gone!

Numerous studies have shown that Rooibos has a positive effect on the skin, both from drinking and applying it directly to your skin. It contains alpha hydroxy acid and zinc, two components known for making skin healthy. So if your teenager is stuck with acne, encourage him/her to wash their face with Rooibos at least once a day to help regulate it.

Soothe sunburn

The dreaded, painful sunburn. We’ve all suffered the results of forgetting to apply sunscreen before heading out to spend a day at the beach or around the pool. Rooibos to the rescue! Fill a bath with warmish water, allow four to five Rooibos teabags to soak, then immerse yourself in it. It will aid in removing the sting and send your skin well on its way to recovery.

Don’t stomach it if you don’t have to

Stomach cramps at ten in the evening are the last thing we want to deal with when we know there’s a busy day ahead of us. A quick cup of Rooibos will do wonders for it. It is rich in antispasmodic agents, which is perfect for stomach cramps and pains. A cup of Rooibos Stomach Tea will see your stomach settled and could ensure a peaceful night’s sleep.

Fun fact: If you put a teabag into your smelly shoes, it will help to get rid of the odour.

I have been drinking Rooibos since I became an Annique Consultant. I read a previous article about drinking 6 cups of Rooibos a day, and I can say that I have not had the flu or a cold all year, despite people around me being ill. My bloating ,constipation and thrush have also disappeared and the only change in  my life has been Rooibos. As a result, Annique teas are the products I sell the most of! – Ashleigh Dube, Zimbabwe
